Today is the auspicious disappearance day of Srila Bhugarva Goswami.

Srila Bhugarbha Goswami was one of the senior most followers of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. He was a disciple of Gadadhar Pandit. He was among the first ones to come to Vrindavana along with Lokanath Goswami at the request of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu.

Both were so close friends to each other that their mind and spirit were one. They were a goldmine of virtues and located lost sacred places in Vrindavana, preached the teachings of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu and guided the Vaishnavas who came after them. To avoid material distractions, Bhugarbha Goswami would perform his worship to Krishna in a cave. Because of this, he received the name Bhugarbha (bhu means “earth,” garbha means “cave” or “hidden place”).

Sri Kavikarnapura writes in his Gaura-ganodesa-dipika that Bhugarbha Goswami was formerly the gopi named Prema Manjari in Vrindavana. While in Vrindavana, Bhugarbha Gosvami passed away and entered again into the transcendental pastimes of the Lord on the fourteenth day of the waxing moon in the month of Kartika. His samadhi is present in the courtyard of the Radha-Damodara temple.

Lokanatha Goswami and Bhugarbha Goswami lived together in Vrindavana as one. Srila Narahari Cakravarti Thakura writes about them in his Bhakti-ratnakara: “Bhugarbha Goswami and Lokanatha Goswami were world-preachers; they were so close and affectionate to one another that they were like one body.”
